Josh Buxton, born Mwesigwa Joshua Buxton on 28 January 1994, is a platinum African TUMA 2017 nominee gospel star born and raised in Bugiri district, Uganda-East Africa in a family of eight.
He is the founder and CEO of Scope Music Group (SMG) and Stand Up 4 Kids with Josh Buxton Foundation (SU4K).
At the age of 19, in 2012 immediately after finalizing his last A Level exam at M.M College, Wairaka Jinja District, Buxton joined Eastern Voice F.M, a local F.M radio where he first worked as a casual laborer, a cleaner.
He later progressed through the ranks and by 2014 he was a full radio presenter/News Anchor and cashier at the radio as the youngest employee.
By 2015 Buxton had become Busoga’s youngest news anchor/radio personality. Radio is where he discovered his music prowess though he had been singing all through school—at El- Shaddai Christian Primary School, Kiira College-Butiki, Iganga Progressive Academy. Radio exposed him to lots of people and many players in the music industry.
In 2013,he recorded his first song, Tonite with J.O.B, an old boy at A-Level in his then Muzikland Inc. Crew. It did not survive to pre-production; never went past his phone play-list. He later did Reported with a bunch of friends. It was produced by Producer Melta, now a friend and brother in the music industry.
Buxton then did lots of songs that went on air at Eastern Voice and by 2015, he had gained ground as Bugiri’s youngest artiste and promising Gospel/Christian artiste.
He has held a deep admiration for singer/pastor Wilson Bugembe and when he was doing a gospel concert in Bugiri neighborhood, Buxton paid the organizers of the show to pit his picture alongside that of Bugembe on the same poster!
At the close of 2015, he quit radio to progress to university-Kampala International University for Bachelors In Mass-communication. His radio fans and listeners vowed never to forgive him till he returned. But that was his turning point musically.
He did Akalimo-in September 2016 and it became an instant hit.
Buxton , now fully residing in Kampala, began making news at home, leave alone being craved. He got noticed by A-Tracks Records after its CEO, a tribe-mate, friend and course mate, Lukalango Arnold Alpa, listening to Buxton music from his musical friend, the producer of Akalimo-Temperature Rise’s playlist. The song was nominated in the TUMA Awards of 2017.
Buxton recorded Nenda Baaba Yiwe featuring artistes he calls All-Stars and Goodlyfe’s Mowzey Radio (RIP).
The producer used his wits to get him on the song and boy! Here we are-the song became a hit. Though he considers himself a gospel/Christian artistes, Buxton says he is also a positive message singer, which explains why he is O.K with his music being played in secular places.
Buxton quit A- Tracks and later founded Scope Music together with his longtime American lover, Jennifer Goude. Later on, Stand Up 4 Kids Foundation was born! In 2019, Jennifer left both ventures after a disagreement.
Buxton is compiling an album called DEMBE a full album to himself.
He sings in all languages (Luganda, Lusoga, English and Swahili) and styles.
